Architecture hotel | Downtown Hotel by Handel Architects

hotel artchitecture - modern hotel mimarisi

Dream Downtown Hotel is a 184,000 SF boutique hotel in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. The 12-story building includes 316 guestrooms, two restaurants, rooftop and VIP lounges, outdoor pool and pool bar, a gym, event space, and ground floor retail.

Dream sits on a though-block site, fronting both 16th and 17th Streets, and is adjacent to the Maritime Hotel, which sits adjacent to the west. In 1964, the National Maritime Union of America commissioned New Orleans-based architect Albert Ledner to design a new headquarters for the Union, on Seventh Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets. Two years later, he designed an annex for the headquarters on the site where Dream currently sits. A few years later, Mr. Ledner designed a flanking wing for the annex, which would eventually be converted to the Maritime Hotel. In the 1970s, the Union collapsed and the buildings were sold and used for various purposes in the years that followed. In 2006, Handel Architects was engaged to convert the main annex into the Dream Downtown Hotel. Read more [ via : contemporist ]

Ren; The People’s Building

To start off, all of you architects / know-it-alls [same thing, I know] out there need to suspend your criticism briefly to enjoy this project. Yes, it would be [somewhat] structurally complicated, and no, nobody seems to know how elevators and all that junk would work. But who cares? Point is, Ren, designed by the Danish firm PLOT [now split into BIG and JDS] is pretty sick looking.

The project is in the good ol’ People’s Republic of China, intended for the World Expo of 2010, which is set to take place in Shanghai. Here’s a description of the building from Eikongraphia, which I decided I wouldn’t bother rephrasing, since they were quoting it anyway:
‘The REN Building is a proposal for a hotel, sports and conference center for the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The building is conceived as two buildings merging into one. The first building, emerging from the water, is devoted to the activities of the body, and houses the sports and water culture center. The second building emerging from land, is devoted to the spirit and enlightment, and houses the conference center and meeting facilities. The two buildings meet in a 1000 room hotel, a building for living. The building becomes the Chinese sign for ‘The People’, and a recognizable landmark for the World Expo in China.’

Burj Al Arab – the tallest hotel in the world

photo : flickr
Burj Al Arab is the tallest hotel in the world (321 meters or 1,053 ft) and characterizes itself as the world’s only “7-star” property. It was built in 1999 and resembles the sail of a boat.
The hotel cost $650 million to build. The cost of staying in a suite begins at $1,000 per night; the Royal Suite is the most expensive, at $28,000 per night.

Burj Dubai – the tallest building in the world

The largest and most famous construction project currently taking place in Dubai is of course the Burj Dubai. Opening in 2009, the Burj Dubai is a super duper tall skyscraper set to be the tallest in the world (818 meters or 2,684 ft). Currently it is the tallest man-made structure on Earth but Burj Dubai will not officially gain the title of tallest building in the world until its completion in 2009.

Just half an hour away from Samui International Airport lies one of Thailand’s most beautiful resorts, the Banyan Tree Samui. 78 cliff side villas are nestled nicely into the lush green trees, all with wonderful water views found throughout the living space.

The area is most commonly known for being the home to the region’s largest Hydrotherapy Spa. Guests can choose from plenty of different relaxing activities to partake in which consist of Yoga lessons, reading in the library, enjoying The Edge international food restaurant, or even taking a dip in the private pool that accompanies each of the villas. If you prefer to be a bit more social, there is also a large common pool located on the resort as well.
